Bio

“John Francis Carroll is a talented instrumental acoustic guitarist and composer. He has delighted audiences playing his own unique versions of classic hits from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, as well as impressing many with his Celtic/Irish folk performances. John took time out for a Q&A with Australian Musician http://www.australianmusician.com.au/john-francis-carroll-guitar/”

- Greg Phillips, Editor, Australian Musician Magazine (Sep 12, 2014)

Before going solo in 2011, Carroll spent many years in the musical wilderness as a guitarist in several bands (Red Beans & Rice, Canton Mississippi Breakdown, Radiotonic) mostly in the blues roots scene and playing the Frankston International Guitar Festival, La Trobe Valley Rhythm & Blues Festival and residencies at the Commercial Hotel in Yarraville and The Archer Bar in Essendon.

In 2005 he joined rock/pop band Radiotonic as lead guitarist, made up of experienced ex-cover band musos and enjoyed a strong working relationship on and off for a few years, promoting their EP and performing around the Melbourne rock scene.

During one of the bands hiatus, Carroll began private guitar lessons with renowned Melbourne Flamenco guitarist Tony Hadjion, and spent the next two years rigorously learning the art of Flamenco guitar.

After rejoining Radiotonic in 2009/10 for one more time, Carroll felt it was time to leave behind the rock n roll dream and follow the burning ambition to be a solo guitarist.

"I first played in a small wine bar and then a Spanish Tapas Bar for a year and then discovered I could attract a wider listening audience through busking around Melbourne and everything has gone really well since". I initially just wanted to play strictly originals, but I ended up playing everything I know also i.e Blues, Spanish, Irish, covers you name it!

Carroll now performs regularly at markets, restaurants, festivals and corporate gigs around Melbourne and interstate. Including two years as a regular at Westfield Southland Shopping Centre. He has released six albums of instrumental music Deli Lane, The Black Shore, Salmon Tails Up the Water,Musica Dalla CorsiaPlacido Modello and Blues Instrumentals that sell consistently to a growing fan base. Album covers have been created and designed by artist Alana Di Giacomo who now lives and works in Fremantle, Western Australia. John’s music has also been featured on 3RRR radio’s Celtic Folk Show, 3MDR Classic Saturdays, 2MCE’s Mal Kiely and performed at the Cygnet Folk Festival Tasmania in 2012 and 2014. And recently supported Australian music legend Jimmy Barnes at a Buckitdream  private event.
